Private Safety Education and Instruction for New Shooters in Los Angeles

Meet Your Instructor
My name is Bill Robbins. I am a business owner, husband and uncle, a biotech start-up founder and investor, a published author and editor, a cyclist, a non-stop reader and life-long learner. I am fond of dogs. I am also an NRA Certified Shooting Instructor – Pistol & Rifle, residing in Los Angeles, CA.
When I tell people that I am a shooting instructor, even people who I have known for years, they usually say, “Oh, really? I had no idea,” with a combination of surprise and curiosity. Aren’t shooting instructors usually military veterans or cops? Often, yes, but I am neither. I’ve spent my career in the corporate world, in start-ups and as a seed-stage investor in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices and in healthcare. That said, my father was a Korean War veteran and an auxiliary policeman in my hometown. Naturally, in my early youth, some of my father’s military and law enforcement background and interests rubbed off on me and I take that as positive.

How I Got Started as a Shooter
When I was growing up, my father was my role model. When learning about firearms safety and shooting fundamentals, having a good role model can be very helpful.

My father, 1st Lt. Robbins, US Army Quartermaster Corps, before shipping out to Korea, in 1952.

My father, the auxiliary policeman, in 1964. I’m the little guy to the right, in the white shirt and overalls. The girl to my father’s immediate right is my sister. Note the boy to the rear (he lived across the street), with his toy rifle.

Me with my father during parents’ weekend at sleepaway camp in Maine, in 1969. I learned riflery that summer.
I enjoy learning about firearms and their role in history—especially, American History, and sharing my knowledge with new shooters. I enjoy helping new shooters to work through a learning process that can be intimidating for the un-initiated. This is often the case and perfectly understandable for people who did not grow up around firearms, or simply never felt a particular need or desire to learn how to shoot, until now.
I am the “friend of the family,” business colleague, personal referral, or recent acquaintance that new shooters in Los Angeles can turn to when looking for someone who understands how it feels and what it takes to get started, how to do so safely, and how to be a responsible gun owner.
